CellSound in Katonah, NY: A Different Approach to Body Contouring

When patients ask me about body contouring, I usually start by explaining that not every treatment works by destroying fat cells.
CellSound is different.
It uses therapeutic ultrasound to increase circulation in the treatment area and encourage fat cells to release some of their stored fat content. The goal is not to freeze, burn or intentionally damage the fat cells.
That is one of the reasons I like the technology.
At Form & Function, I am interested not only in changing the way an area looks, but also in improving the way the tissue functions.
How Does CellSound Work?
Fat tissue is metabolically active. It is affected by blood flow, hormones, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, exercise, nutrition and many other factors.
CellSound uses ultrasound energy to create a mechanical effect within the treatment area. This helps increase local blood flow and encourages fat cells to release stored lipid, which can then enter the body's normal metabolic pathways.
I often explain it to patients as helping fat tissue become more metabolically active rather than simply trying to destroy it.
That is also why we encourage patients to move, exercise and eat sensibly during the treatment series. CellSound works best as part of an overall approach to improving body composition, not as a substitute for a healthy lifestyle.
Is CellSound Just for Small Pockets of Fat?
No.
This is another area where CellSound differs from many traditional body-contouring treatments.
It doesn't have to be used only on one small pocket of fat. We can treat a broader area, such as the abdomen, waist, flanks or thighs, with the goal of producing a more generalized change throughout that region.
Depending on the area being treated and the patient's anatomy, the ultrasound can also reach deeper adipose tissue.
We don't present CellSound as a treatment that guarantees visceral-fat reduction, but its ability to work beyond the most superficial layer of fat is one of the reasons it is interesting from a body-composition standpoint.
Do I Need to Be at My Goal Weight First?
No.
CellSound is not a weight-loss treatment, but you do not have to be at your ideal weight before considering it.
Some patients are already close to their goal and want help with stubborn areas. Others are still actively working on their body composition through nutrition, exercise or medical weight management.
Both situations can make sense.
What matters is understanding where CellSound fits into the larger picture.
If someone needs to lose a substantial amount of weight, CellSound is not going to replace that process. But it can still be used as part of a broader plan when appropriate.
What Happens During a CellSound Treatment?
The treatment is very comfortable.
There are no needles, no incisions and no anesthesia.
The applicator is moved over the treatment area while the ultrasound energy is delivered into the tissue.
Most patients simply relax during the session.
There is no meaningful downtime afterward, and you can return to your normal activities.
We actually encourage movement and exercise following treatment when medically appropriate.
Why Do We Encourage Exercise?
Because the whole point is to help mobilize stored fat.
Once fat is released from the adipose tissue, we want the body to use that energy.
That is why I encourage patients to stay active during their CellSound program rather than thinking of the treatment as something that works completely on its own.
This does not mean you need to do an extreme workout.
Walking, resistance training, cycling or another form of exercise that is appropriate for you can all be helpful.
Good nutrition matters too.
If you finish a treatment and then go home and consistently overeat, the technology cannot overcome that.
CellSound should support a healthy lifestyle, not replace one.
How Do We Measure Results?
I don't like relying only on the scale.
The scale can be misleading because body weight does not tell us where changes are happening.
At Form & Function, we use calibrated imaging and measurements to document changes before and after treatment.
Patients may see measurable reductions in circumference after an individual session, and some lose several centimeters across the areas we measure.
Of course, every patient responds differently, so I never promise a specific number.
The point is that we measure it.
I want patients to be able to see objective changes rather than simply being told that something “looks better.”
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients undergo a series of about six treatments, usually performed once or twice a week.
The exact number depends on the treatment area, your starting body composition and how you respond.
We follow your measurements throughout the series so we can see what is actually changing.
Can CellSound Results Last?
They can, but lifestyle matters.
Body composition is never static.
If someone gains a significant amount of weight after treatment, their body composition can obviously change again.
The best long-term results tend to come from patients who continue exercising, maintain reasonable nutrition and pay attention to their metabolic health.
I think of CellSound as a tool that can help move things in the right direction.
What you do afterward helps determine how well those changes are maintained.
How Is CellSound Different From Emsculpt NEO?
We offer both technologies because they do different things.
CellSound is focused primarily on circulation, fat mobilization and changes in adipose tissue.
Emsculpt NEO uses electromagnetic energy and radiofrequency to build muscle and affect fat at the same time.
For some patients, one is clearly more appropriate than the other.
For others, combining the two makes sense.
For example, after weight loss, a patient may have both residual adipose tissue and loss of muscle mass. In that situation, improving the fat layer without addressing the muscle may not give the best result.
Again, it comes back to treating what is actually causing the problem.
Why We Use CellSound at Form & Function
My background is in diagnostic radiology, so I have spent most of my medical career thinking about what is happening beneath the surface.
That has influenced the way I approach aesthetics and body composition.
I am less interested in doing a treatment simply because it promises inch loss and more interested in understanding how the technology affects the tissue.
CellSound fits well with that approach.
It gives us a non-invasive way to improve circulation and encourage fat mobilization without intentionally damaging the tissue.
And because we can measure the results, we can follow what is happening rather than guessing.
